Powered by Firework Amongst all that is happening in cricketing, one thing that the Indian cricketing fandom is majorly focused on is- what is the future of Mahendra Singh Dhoni? The former Team India skipper has been absent from international duty since the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, and while various speculations have risen regarding his return with the blue jersey, even Ravi Shastri had expressed his dissent towards the gossipers earlier. Now, the head coach of the team has dropped a bomb, saying that Dhoni’s hiatus may become permanent without a stunning spell in this year’s Indian Premier League.Advertisement Image Courtesy: Getty/SportzpicsBack in December, Shastri hit back on the rumourers who were spreading hearsays about Dhoni’s possible future plans.“The amount of sport he has played… if he puts himself in contention… if he feels after the IPL that ‘I am good enough to play for India’, don’t mess around with that,” Shastri told India Today.Advertisement While we have entered the month of Janaury, and there is still no word from Mahi himself, who asked the media to refrain from questioning about his plans till this month, its Shastri himself who have opened up on the former captain’s future in the sport.Speaking to CNN News18 today, the 57 year old suggested that Dhoni has already spoken to him about his future in One Day International Cricket.Advertisement “I have had a conversation with MS and that is between us. He has finished his Test career, he may soon end his ODI career… In all probability, he will finish one-day cricket,” Shastri spoke to reporters.Along with a decorative career in red ball cricket, Dhoni has had an amazing walk in the T20 format, which started with lifting the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup as a maiden captain. Although Shastri thinks T20 maybe is the last resort for the 38 year old.He continued: “At his age, probably the only format he’ll want to play is T20 cricket which means he’ll have to start playing again, get back into the groove because he’s going to play in the IPL and see how his body reacts.”Dhoni, who has earned an astounding 350 caps in the ODI format, is speculated to make a comeback to the 22 yards this year with Chennai Super Kings, and according to Shastri, a good performance in the 2020 IPL season may be his gateway back to the Men in Blues squad.“… So he will be left with T20, he will definitely play the IPL. One thing I know about Dhoni is that he will not impose himself on the team. But if he has a cracking IPL, well, then…”The 2020 IPL season, starting on March 29, is definitely turning out to be a decisive step in Dhoni’s cricketing career. Also read-Ravi Shastri warns off rumour mongers: Don’t mess around with MS Dhoni’s plans!Joginder Sharma on MSD’s hiatus: Perhaps he is preparing himself a different way Advertisementlast_img read more

Data Mining and Taco Bell Programming

first_imgRelated Posts Tags:#hack#tips Growing Phone Scams: 5 Tips To Avoid Programmer Ted Dziuba suggests an alternative to traditional program that he called “Taco Bell Programming.” The Taco Bell chain creates multiple menu items from about eight different ingredients. Dziuba wants to be able to be able to create many applications with combinations of about eight different shell commands. Here’s an example from Dziuba:Here’s a concrete example: suppose you have millions of web pages that you want to download and save to disk for later processing. How do you do it? The cool-kids answer is to write a distributed crawler in Clojure and run it on EC2, handing out jobs with a message queue like SQS or ZeroMQ.The Taco Bell answer? xargs and wget. In the rare case that you saturate the network connection, add some split and rsync. A “distributed crawler” is really only like 10 lines of shell script.Dziuba gives another example. Instead of using Hadoop to process that data once you have it, you can use:find crawl_dir/ -type f -print0 | xargs -n1 -0 -P32 ./process“It is a viable way to deal with massive data problems, at least for one-off jobs,” Big data expert and ReadWriteWeb contributor Pete Warden says about Dziuba’s Taco Bell programming concept. “You’re trading off the ability to manage and tightly control the process against development speed.”Do you have any favorite hacks like this? klint finleycenter_img How to Write a Welcome Email to New Employees? 7 Types of Video that will Make a Massive Impac… Why You Love Online Quizzeslast_img read more

Jody WilsonRaybould resigns from federal cabinet

first_imgJustin BrakeAPTN NewsFederal Veterans Affairs Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould announced in a tweet Tuesday morning that she is resigning from cabinet. In an open letter Wilson-Raybould, Canada’s first Indigenous Justice minister and Attorney General, said that she ran for office “with the goal of implementing a positive and progressive vision of change on behalf of all Canadians and a different way of doing politics.“My resignation as a Minister of the Crown in no way changes my commitment to seeing that fundamental change achieved. This work must and will carry on.”Read the full letter here: Jody Wilson-RaybouldThe announcement comes amid growing pressure for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Wilson-Raybould to publicly address allegations the Prime Minister’s Office pressured Wilson-Raybould, in her time as attorney general, to help Montreal engineering and construction giant SNC-Lavalin avoid criminal prosecution.Trudeau has denied any wrongdoing and Wilson-Raybould has cited solicitor-client privilege when asked to explain what happened. In her letter Tuesday Wilson-Raybould says she is “in the process of obtaining advice on the topics that I am legally permitted to discuss in this matter.”With a heavy heart I have submitted my letter of resignation to the Prime Minister as a member of Cabinet…— Jody Wilson-Raybould (@Puglaas) February 12, 2019She named Thomas Albert Cromwell as her counsel. Cromwell told APTN News that he would not be making any statements on the issue. The PMO released a statement Tuesday saying Wilson-Raybould informed Trudeau Monday evening of her resignation, and that the prime minister then convened a meeting Tuesday morning to inform cabinet.Trudeau will hold a press conference in Winnipeg Tuesday evening to answer questions from the media. On Tuesday afternoon, Wilson-Raybould’s sister Kory Wilson told APTN she has been with her sister “through a difficult time since Thursday,” when the Globe and Mail first published a story containing the SNC-related allegations against the PMO.Since that time, Wilson-Raybould has been the subject of both scrutiny and support.Scrutiny for not divulging what exactly transpired between her and the PMO, and support for allegedly being put in the position.“It’s obviously horrible to see all the things that people have said about her. But she did the right thing,” Wilson said. “I’m proud of how she has carried herself since Thursday.”Wilson said her sister’s voice “will be missed” in cabinet “because there is no other Indigenous woman’s voice at that table.“And any time you have a room or a space where those from other equity-seeking groups or marginalized groups are not represented, [that] ensures there isn’t a full and wholesome discussion with all perspectives represented. So I think it’s very challenging.“When you’re the first of something, often it’s hardest,” Wilson said. “The first person paves the way for those who will come behind.“She opened that door and I guarantee that there is a whole slew of Indigenous women and young women out there that will take up the fight and continue to ensure that the voices of the others are heard.”Meanwhile, at the request of two NDP members, the federal ethics commissioner has launched an investigation into the matter.Recent statements from unnamed Liberal party insiders to the Canadian Press criticizing Wilson-Raybould’s character have prompted backlash from all corners.(Wilson-Raybould and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the campaign trail in 2015) The Canadian Press quoted the sources as saying the minister, who is a member of the We Wai Kai Nation, had been “a thorn in the side of cabinet,” “difficult to get along with,” and “known to berate fellow cabinet members at the table.”Last month Trudeau moved Wilson-Raybould out of the justice and attorney general portfolios and into veterans affairs, which many consider a demotion.Prior to Wilson-Raybould’s announcement, First Nation leaders in B.C. published an open letter to Trudeau calling on the prime minister to “immediately and categorically publicly condemn the racist and sexist innuendo…being spread by unnamed elected officials and staff of your government in media reports.”The letter, from the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs’ executive, says the recent statements by reported Liberal party insiders are “cowardly, low blows aimed at discrediting the staunch work ethic Minister Wilson-Raybould has maintained.“They perpetuate colonial-era, sexist stereotypes that Indigenous women cannot be powerful, forthright, and steadfast in positions of power, but rather confrontational, meddling and egotistic. These comments from your staff must be recognized for what they are – blatant sexism,” the letter reads.Wilson-Raybould, 47, won her seat for Vancouver-Granville in the 2015 federal election. She then became Canada’s first Indigenous justice minister and Attorney General.Prior to her entry into federal politics Wilson-Raybould, a UBC-trained lawyer, served as a councillor for the We Wai Kai Nation and as a regional chief for the Assembly of First Nations. She also worked as a crown attorney and advisory for the B.C. Treaty Commission.Addressing the comments from unnamed Liberal insiders directed at Wilson-Raybould, Wilson said she and her sister were “raised and taught that if you have something to say you say it publicly and openly, and you stand behind what you say.”She also said her sister “doesn’t get down into the weeds and worry about what people say or think about her because she knows in her heart what she’s doing is the right thing, and that she’s, as she said, speaking truth to power.”[email protected]@justinbrakenewslast_img read more
